Disney launching its own streaming service

Disney is closing out 2019 with a new streaming service, called Disney+.

The company is ending its relationship with Netflix at the end of the year, and will instead make its own service the exclusive home for many Disney movies, TV shows and other streaming programming.

The Marvel Defenders shows Netflix has cancelled - like Daredevil and Luke Cage - could be revived for Disney+.

The entertainment business has been heading towards streaming for the last few years.

Apple's upcoming service will offer both original content and special access to existing services like HBO.

Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and other streaming apps now generate an incredible amount of original content with 160 scripted shows, almost a third of the record 495 on all of TV.

Thirty-three million Americans cut the cord on cable in 2018.
