Missy Elliott to receive Michael Jackson video vanguard award at VMAs

Rapper Missy Elliott will become the first female rapper to receive the Michael Jackson video vanguard award when the 36th annual Video Music Awards are presented on August 26.
This has been a year of firsts for Elliott as on June 13, she became the first female rapper to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

This will mark her first appearance on the VMAs stage since 2003.
Elliott is a two-time video of the year winner at the VMAs.
In 2001, she won it for Lady Marmalade, a collab with Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Mýa and P!nk, and in 2003 for her solo hit Work It
The VMAs will be held in Newark, N.J. on Monday, August 26.
