Nominees announced for Actor Boy Awards

The Actor Boy Awards are set for March, and with just about a month left before the staging of the event, organizers announced the nominees in each category at a brief ceremony on Sunday evening at Jampro's business auditorium in Kingston.

The year 2014 saw one of the most varied and exciting years in Jamaican theatre, with 19 productions qualifying for nomination. These plays span a range of genres and categories, including children's theatre, musical, drama, and comedy, and featured some of the best that Jamaica had to offer throughout the year.

For Best Leading Actor, Glen Campbell received two nominations for his role in Saving Alligator High and Funny Kind of Love. Other nominees in this category included Alwyn Scott, Christopher MacFarlane, and Tesfa Edwards.

Nominnees for Best Leading Actress are Leonie Forbes, Suzette Barrett, Sharee-McDonald Russell, Rosie Murray and Ruth Hoshing.

The award categories do not only feature on-stage performers, but those behind the scenes, including directors, choreographers, music directors, costumers and set designers, lighting and sound designers and overall technical management.

Patrick Brown’s Caught in the Net and Trevor Nairne’s Saving Alligator High earned the highest number of nominations, with 11.

The Actor Boy Awards will be held on March 30 at Courtleigh Auditorium.
