Slew of artistes honoured at BET Awards

The 16th annual BET Awards happened on Sunday night at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. 
  
The show honoured artistes, actors and athletes across 20 categories, and also featured tributes to Prince by a slew of artistes, including Jennifer Hudson and Stevie Wonder, and a surprise performance by Beyonce and Kendrick Lamar.  
     
In addition, Grey's Anatomy star Jesse Williams was given the Humanitarian Award, delivering a passionate Black Lives Matter speech, while Samuel L. Jackson received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
     
Laila Ali and Jamie Foxx paid a special tribute to the late boxing legend Muhammad Ali. 
     
Among the winners were Beyonce, who took home three trophies, Best Female R&B/Pop, Viewers Choice and Centric Awards; Bryson Tiller won for best New Artiste and Best Male R&B.
     
Drake also walked away with two awards, winning Best Male Rapper and Best Group with Future, while Nicki Minaj won for best Female Rapper. 
     
Taraji P. Henson and Michael B. Jordan were awarded for acting, while the sports personalities of the year went to Serena Williams and Stephen Curry. 
     
The Best Movie award was given to Straight Outta Compton.
