Tyler Perry is developing a prequel drama series about the early life of his iconic character Madea.
Showtime has ordered multiple scripts for the project, which is titled Mabel.
It will tell the story of a smart, fierce, irresistible, dangerous, crazy 20-something black woman named Mabel Simmons and her move to Atlanta in 1972 which set the world on fire.
Perry's Madea character originated on stage during his time as a playwright before going to Hollywood.
To date, his nine Madea films have grossed over $500 million worldwide.
