US disc joc critcised for comment regarding dancehall

America's Hot 97 radio station's DJ Ebro has come under fire from the dancehall fraternity after posting a tweet claiming that Canadian Rapper Drake and British singer Ed Sheeran are bringing back dancehall.

His comment follows the success of Sheeran's latest album Divide, which has a lot of dancehall influences.

Drake's last release Views also had a strong dancehall presence, from the use of the Jamaican creole, to reggae beats, to dancehall features with Beenie Man and Popcaan.

International stars are now turning to dancehall more than ever to add spice to their music.

Rihanna and Nicki Minaj who are both from Caribbean Islands have always included the culture in their music.

Canadian artistes Tory Lanez and Justin Beiber have also done recent samples of dancehall music.

Since Ebro's post, many have flocked to social media to express their discontent with his statement.

Sheeran's single Shape of You which has a dancehall beat, was recently remixed to include Jamaican artistes Nyla and Kranium.
