Wendy Williams to take leave from show due to Graves disease

Talk show host Wendy Williams shared with viewers on Wednesday that she would need to take a doctors-ordered three week leave of absence from the show, due to her battle with Graves disease.

Graves disease causes overstimulation of the thyroid, which causes symptoms such as an enlarged thyroid, thinning of hair, anxiety, fatigue and elevated blood pressure.

Williams cancelled several shows last week, after taking to social media to announce that she was suffering from flu-like symptoms.

The host spoke with People magazine about her ongoing battle with Graves disease in July 2017, and in October 2017, Williams collapsed on air, later explaining that it was due to "overheating."

Reruns of the Wendy Williams Show will air until her return.
