Zimbabwe's 'Tuku' declared national hero posthumously

Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa has declared internationally renowned musician Oliver Mtukudzi a national hero, granting him the status following his death.

The 66 year-old, affectionately known as Tuku, died at a local clinic on Wednesday from diabetes, ending a career that spanned four decades and 67 albums.

Mr. Mnangagwa told mourners at Mr. Mtukudzi's house that the decision to confer national hero status on the musician was unanimously made by his government and ruling party.

Tuku becomes the fourth non-political figure to be conferred hero status.
