Cabinet approves new NWC board

Cabinet has given approval for the appointment of a new Board of Directors for the National Water Commission (NWC).

Engineer David Chung is the new Chairman of the nine member Board.

Businessman Mark Myers is Vice Chairman.

Water Minister, Dr. Horace Chang, says the new Board is a mix of public and private sector officials.

“It’s a small commission, nine members by law, but we have an extensive group of people to continue the work of the water commission and do some additional work as we seek to not only improve the image of the water commission, but its service and its productivity,” Dr. Chang said.

And the NWC will have an Acting President come the end of the month.

A permanent replacement has not yet been found for E.G. Hunter, who is to demit office come December 31.

Dr. Chang says an Acting President will be appointed while the Board searches for someone to fill the post.

Dr. Chang also revealed that the corporate structure of the NWC is to be reviewed.

“We are also having discussions with the Inter American Development Bank as we seek additional financing to complete the capital works of the water company and part of that would be some review of the corporate structure of the company as well as we seek to improve the service and strengthen the management of the water commission,” he said.
