Copyright period to be extended in Jamaica

The Government of Jamaica is taking steps to modernise the country's intellectual property regime.

The Copyright (Amendment) Bill was tabled in the House of  Representatives on Tuesday.

The proposed amendments will, among other things, extend the copyright term from 50 years to 95 years, which is unprecedented in the region.

This will allow holders of copyright longer periods to earn income from their works.
