Finance Minister defends using funds from fuel tax in national budget

Dr. Nigel Clarke
Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke has defended his decision to use funds from the fuel tax in the national budget.

Dr. Clarke was this week criticised by Opposition Spokesman on Energy Phillip Paulwell for not using the funds for which it was initially intended.

However, Dr. Clarke has rebutted, arguing that "the idea that a tax levied on all of the Jamaican people should be pocketed and put and kept in one place is inconsistent with international best practices of public financial management."

He was speaking Friday morning at a round table talk with members of the media.
