Gov't doing background work to implement NIDS - Holness

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has said the Government continues to do background work for the implementation of the National Identification System (NIDS).

Speaking at the recent launch of the Electronic Business Forum, Mr. Holness said the Government is establishing infrastructure to facilitate a seamless exchange of information between Government agencies.

He disclosed that the Government intranet is already in place.

Attention will then turn to the form in which the National Identification System will take place.

The NIDS project is being implemented under a US$68 million loan from the Inter-American Development Bank.

The identification project was halted due to the Supreme Court ruling earlier this year, which rendered the NIDS legislation null and void.
