Gov't offers Special Early Retirement to some public sector workers

Government is offering a Special Early Retirement Programme (SERP) to eligible public sector workers.

The option to apply under the SERP is strictly voluntary and is expected to contribute to reducing the size of the public sector wage bill as a percent of GDP.

Eligible public sector workers are permanent employees of the Government of Jamaica between the ages of 50 and 59 years except health professionals, security forces, correctional officers and teachers.

Among the incentives included in the SERP is the offer of two weeks' salary for each year of service up to a maximum of one year's salary and payment in lieu of accumulated vacation leave.
