IMF Mission chief supports tax reform

International Monetary Fund (IMF)  Mission Chief, Dr. Uma Ramakrishnan has expressed support for the government's plan to move from direct to indirect taxation.

During Friday's IMF media briefing, Ramakrishnan also commended the Andrew Holness administration for embarking on tax reform. She however cautioned the government to ensure that the reform does not negatively affect the most vulnerable members of the population.

The IMF has indicated that the focus for Jamaica should be on broadening the tax base and building an efficient and equitable tax system that supports economic growth and development.
