Jamaica making progress in generating electricity from renewable sources - Holness

Prime Minister Andrew Holness

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has said Jamaica is making progress in generating electricity from renewable sources.

The country has a target of having 50 per cent of energy use being generated from renewables by 2030.

Mr. Holness said Jamaica is almost 20 per cent.

"The total amount of electricity generated from solar is now up to six per cent of the install electricity generation capacity islandwide.... When this is added to other sources of renewable energy, Jamaica is now generating 17 per cent of its electricity from renewable sources, so that would be wind, solar and hydro," he revealed.

Mr. Holness was addressing Wednesday's opening of the Paradise Park Solar Farm in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland.
