JHTA happy with increased tourist arrivals

There are expectations that the 2013/14 Winter Tourist Season will end with Jamaica recording an increase in arrivals. The period officially closes on April 14.

According to Evelyn Smith, President of  the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA), arrival figures have been better than last year.

"I think there is indeed a good possibility of that being the case. How much? I really would not be quantify to a percentage point at this time..."

She cautioned, however, that the raw arrival data constituted just one of the indicators used to determine success. "We've always reiterated the importance of looking also at of what sorts of rates have been coming in and for our other sub-sectors like the attractions sub-sectors and the shopping sub-sectors - what has been the propensity of our visitors to actually go out and enjoy those offerings that our island has to offer."
