The island's manufacturers' have given a strong signal that they want decisive action this year to tackle the country's crime problem.
The Jamaica Manufacturers' Association (JMA) says crime has to be tamed as it continues to have a negative impact on the country's economic performance:
The organisation has offered to assist in identifying solutions.
"It needs to be controlled and the JMA would be willing to be a part of any solution that is put forward. The real answer to solving crime is to fix the justice system. Without the justice system being fixed, we will be unable to get a real handle on crime," he said.
