JPS signs power purchase agreement for construction of solar power plant

The Jamaica Public Service Company has signed a Power Purchase Agreement, with Eight Rivers Energy Company for the construction of  a 37 megawatt Solar Power Plant in Paradise Park, Westmoreland this year.

Under the agreement, JPS will purchase electricity from the new solar facility for twenty years, to the year 2038.

Up to 300 persons will be employed during the construction of  the plant. This is the second power purchase agreement to be signed between the JPS and a solar powered generating entity in two years.

The other is WRB Enertprises, through Content Solar, a 20 megawatt facility in Clarendon.

The new photovoltaic power plant will comprise solar panels covering roughly 200 acres.

Construction is slated for completion by mid-2018.
