New business model for Jamaica Ship Registry

A new business model is being developed for the Jamaican Ship Registry.

Cabinet has given the green light for the Maritime Authority of Jamaica to engage private sector interests for the privatisation of  the management, operation and promotion of  the Ship Registry and related services.

A six-member Enterprise Team/Steering Committee, which includes Attorney General Patrick Atkinson and the Director General of  the Maritime Authority, has been established to interface with potential investors.

According to a Ministry Paper tabled in the House of  Representatives, given resource constraints and public sector reforms, the Maritime Authority will have to pursue activities to achieve sustainability.
