New Repo rules being introduced

Jamaicans seeking to invest in repos will have to find a minimum of  one million dollars to make that investment.

In addition, investors will be able to purchase those repos using US dollars, with the minimum in that currency set at US$10,000.

The measure is part of  changes being made to the retail repo market, as part of the reforms agreed with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The Financial Services Commission, which is overseeing the implementation of the reform, also says securities dealers, who sell retail repos to investors, must now transfer ownership of  the underlying securities to a trustee by the end of August.
