NWC’s K-Factor programme to net 5000 jobs

Close to 5,000 jobs are expected under the J$50 billion K-Factor programme which was launched Wednesday night.
The programme will encompass a range of projects in the potable and waste water sectors.

Robert Pickersgill, Minister of Water, Land, Environment and Climate Change, in launching the K Factor programme on Wednesday, noted that J$15 billion worth of projects had already received approval and were in various stages of development.

The K-Factor programme is designed to rescue the National Water Commission (NWC) from sinking into debt and grappling with dilapidated infrastructure, David Geddes, NWC’s vice president told RJR News.
“This will have a significant impact on the Jamaican economy, as was noted by Minister Pickersgill in his address at the launch last night (Wednesday) of the K-Factor programme. It’s anticipated that approximately 5,000 persons could be directly employed  by the various projects under the K-Factor programme. Hundreds more (of) skilled workers - high-end level workers - would also be employed. Approximately 300,000 customers will be impacted in one way or another by the programme. This is one of the most massive undertakings in the history of Jamaica infrastructural development" Geddes said.

The projects will help to reduce non-revenue water as well as the Commission's electricity bill which amounts to J$500 million monthly.
