Oil prices edge lower

Oil prices edged lower on Friday, but both benchmarks were on track for a weekly gain on rising concerns over potential further supply disruptions in Middle East shipments due to US-Iran political tensions.

Iran said it could easily hit U.S. warships in the Gulf, the latest in days of sabre-rattling between Washington and Tehran, while its top diplomat worked to counter U.S. sanctions and salvage a nuclear deal denounced by President Donald Trump.

Brent crude was down 44 cents, or 0.6%, at $72.18 a barrel.

U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude fell seven cents to $62.80, and was on track for a weekly gain of about 1.8%.
