Unionised employees of the Financial Services Commission (FSC) are expected to remain off the job on Friday as they are awaiting the outcome of a meeting at the Ministry of Labour to discuss the dispute which triggered Thursday's work stoppage.
The employees, who are represented by the National Workers’ Union (NWU), are upset about what they say is the unjust termination of a colleague, while she was on sick leave.
The workers left their stations after a last-ditch attempt to iron out the dispute Thursday morning failed.
Vincent Morrison, NWU President, says the decision was made to take industrial action after the FSC refused to meet with the union at the Labour Ministry.
The Union is insisting that the agency reinstate the employee.
However, the Commission has said that the worker was dismissed as she was unable to resume duties.
Mr. Morrison has described the Commission's reason as unjustified and inhumane.
