PM announces plans for Bowden Wharf

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has announced plans for the old Bowden Wharf  in eastern St Thomas to be developed as a bulk port to move aggregate, limestone and other minerals.

Holness says the move will help to take pressure off  the road network especially the South Coast Highway which is to be constructed in the parish.

“The PortAauthority which falls directly under my oversight has plans for Bowden as part of the general development of the parishThis parish has a potential industry that we haven’t spoken about yet …. limestone, aggregate and other minerals. The parish can become a major player in the mining industry. When we build the road we have to provide a multi-modal transportation system as an alternative for haulage on the road,” he said.

The Prime Minister was speaking at a recent Town Hall meeting in St Thomas.
