PM asked to clarify government's position on Goat Islands

Opposition Spokesman on Investments Anthony Hylton has called for Prime Minister Andrew Holness to clarify to the Parliament whether the government will be facilitating an industrial hub on Goat Islands.

Hylton said recent utterances by the prime minister on the matter make him concerned about the implementation of the project.

“At a public meeting in New York, and in response to a question (the Prime Minister was asked) if the Goat Islands project will  go forward as proposed by the investor China Harbour Engineering Company, not withstanding the significant investments undertaken by the entity as part of its due diligence exercise, and to satisfy the great public outcry and environmentalists concerns.”

Hylton said the prime minister must clarify the government's position on the matter in Parliament, making it clear if Goat Islands will play any role in making Jamaica a logistics centered economy.
