PSOJ suggests low productivity causing sliding dollar

Keith Duncan

Keith Duncan, Vice President of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ), has suggested that the Jamaican dollar is sliding because businesses have failed to address the issue of low productivity.

"Jamaica's productivity has declined by almost a percentage point every year and you wonder why the dollar is devaluing. Because if you don't increase your productivity or your factors of production, then you you're gonna feel it in the exchange rate if you're going to be competitive," he said.

Mr. Duncan was speaking Tuesday at the PSOJ-JMMB annual economic forum.
