Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is reporting a high success rate since its Special Enforcement Team commenced tax recovery activities in St. Catherine this month.
The operation, which involves the Major Organized Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA), has so far targeted 133 chronically delinquent taxpayers.
TAJ says 117 of the individuals either made full payments, entered into payment arrangements or are facing various enforcement actions to recover the outstanding amounts.
The tax authority issued garnishment notices to employers and tenants of 17 delinquent taxpayers.
Twenty-seven warning notices were issued to individuals, who were given until today to settle outstanding amounts in full or face the registration of a lien against their properties.
Six of the nine delinquent taxpayers who were arrested during the operation settled their outstanding taxes the same day and the remaining three persons were given an order to appear before the Parish Court, after which they were offered bail.
TAJ says it will conduct similar operations over the next several weeks in other parishes.
