Thousands take advantage of Companies Office amnesty

More than four thousand annual returns and hundreds of  applications have been filed since the Companies Office of  Jamaica (COJ) commenced its amnesty nearly two months ago.

Judith Ramlogan, Chief  Executive Officer of  the COJ, says 4,500 annual returns have been filed and 500 applications submitted to remove companies and a further 400 to close business names.

During the amnesty, companies may be removed from the register for a flat fee of $10,000, without having to file outstanding documents or provide an audit certificate. There will be no late fees, penalties, removal or advertising fee charged as would have been the case prior to the amnesty.

Extension

Meanwhile, the Companies Office has extended the amnesty for businesses to file outstanding annual returns, to July 31. The period was originally slated for May 4 to June 30.

In making the announcement, Ms. Ramlogan, said there will be no further extension.

She explained that the additional time is to allow more businesses to take advantage of  the benefits.
