Trinidad & Tobago wants Caribbean energy fund established

Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar of Trinidad & Tobago has suggested that a US$1 billion Caribbean Energy Thematic Fund be established to deal with regional energy security.

Speaking at the First Caribbean Energy Security Summit in Washington, D.C. on Monday, she said her government is committed to working with the United States and other Caribbean countries to achieve a cleaner, more sustainable energy future in the region.

Mrs Persad Bissessar said this can be achieved by transforming the energy matrix in the Caribbean.

The Energy Security Summit was hosted by U.S Vice President Joe Biden.
