Unemployments increases says STATIN

The Statistical Institute of Jamaica, STATIN says the jobless rate in Jamaica rose in April.

Unemployment in the month was measured at 14 point 3 percent as 2 thousand 700 people lost jobs from the January level.

The job losses increased the number of unemployed people in Jamaica to 180 thousand.

STATIN says many of the job losses occurred among Service Workers and Shop & Market Sales workers.

Despite job losses, Professionals, Senior Officials and Technicians found more employment between January and April.

Still more people left the labour force.

During April 749 thousand people were classified as being outside the labour force, because even though they were of employable age...they were not actively seeking a job for one reason or the other.

At the end of April, of a Labour Force of over 1 point 26 million, just under 1 point 1 million people were working.
