US stock markets hold steady

US stock markets, which surged Tuesday in anticipation of President Donald Trump's relief package, held steady in opening trade.
 
Earlier, shares rose in Europe and Asia. 
 
Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 index closed eight per cent higher on Wednesday following news of the relief deal.
 
Markets in Europe were also trading higher, with London's FTSE 100 index up more than one per cent.
