100 District Constables for tourist resort towns

Plans to increase the numbers of security personnel in tourist resort towns are far advanced following the training of a hundred District Constables in a six week programme.

The District Constables are to graduate today and will be strategically deployed in areas that have consistent influx of tourists throughout the year. The Police High Command and the Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo) partnered on this initiative to cauterize tourist harassment and crimes against foreign nationals in the island.

Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of training at the National Police College of Jamaica, Norman Heywood, says the initiative has the potential to positively impact the number of tourists visiting the country.
