A common-law couple who on Wednesday pleaded guilty to the charge of cruelty to a child was sentenced to 200 hours of community service.

The couple, from Queensbury, St. Elizabeth, was sentenced before the St. Elizabeth Parish Court.
Before being sentenced, the couple apologised to the 14 year old girl.
The court was told that the couple used electrical wire to beat to the child when she was 13 years old.
She sustained bruises all over her body.
The child was taken to a doctor and the matter reported to the police.
The couple was later taken into custody.
