Alleged members of car stealing ring granted bail

Two alleged members of  a car stealing ring were released on bond when they appeared before the Corporate Area Criminal Court on Friday.

A third accused was remanded after he indicated to the court that he intends to plead guilty.

Sashanna Maxwell, 22 and Jerome Scott were each offered bail in the sum of J$100-thousand ,the other accused is Joel Daley.

The three have been charged with stealing a car owned by a senior officer of  the police force.

They have also been charged under the anti-gang legislation.

    

Investigators say the group is linked to a gang in Olympic Gardens, St Andrew.

It was reported that on August 16, a car was stolen from the St Andrew home of  the senior cop.

Hours later, it was reportedly intercepted in Mandeville with the accused. 

   

During a bail hearing on Friday, defence attorneys Peter Champagnie and Christopher Townsend argued that Maxwell and Scott were passengers and had no knowledge the car was stolen.

They are to return on October 2.
