Alleged Uchence gang leader completes testimony

Uchence Wilson, who is accused of leading a criminal gang which was involved in armed robberies in several parishes, completed testimony at his trial on Tuesday.

Wilson again denied being the leader of a criminal organisation.

Prosecutors played a recording of him telling investigators of his knowledge of an individual who had two illegal guns.

Wilson admitted to making the statement, but said he was lying to the cops, who had him in custody.

Five other accused gave testimony on Tuesday, denying they were members of the gang.

Earlier on Tuesday, a sixth defendant in the case - Tashina Baker - was ordered released after Chief Justice Bryan Sykes reviewed the no case submissions by her attorney.

Twenty-four persons had initially been placed on trial.

Prosecutors reported that members of the supposed Uchence Wilson gang were involved in robberies, shootings and rapes between 2015 and 2017.

The trial continues on Thursday.
