Alpart workers resume duties following strike

Workers at Alpart in Nain, St. Elizabeth have resumed duties after protesting outside the plant earlier on Tuesday.

The employees say they have been working without contracts and safety gear. In addition, they are concerned about issues such as vacation leave, sick leave, as well as a lack of health and group life insurance.

They are also upset about their base rate of pay and that they will not receive a bonus next month.

Vincent Morrison, President of the Union of Clerical, Administrative and Supervisory Employees (UCASE), said the Alpart employees went back to work following a meeting with operators of the plant where they agreed to meet again on Wednesday to discuss the issues of concern.
