A number of the athletes who will take part in the third Carifta Aquathlon and Triathlon Championships were engaged in a training camp in the island recently. The 5-day camp was aimed not only at helping the participants sharpen their skills ahead of competition but also at identifying and honing the talent of young triathletes.
Coach Alejandro Canas of Spain says even though the sport of triathlon is not yet popular in this side of the world, it’s continuing to grow. The two day championships will take place at the Jewel Runaway Bay Resort and Golf Club and will see participation in the 11-12, 13-15 and 16-19 age group for boys and girls as well as the senior category. 10 countries are expected to take part with the opening ceremony set for Friday.
