Bail extended for Dr. Jephthah Ford

Medical practitioner, Dr. Jephthah Ford, who is facing corruption charges, had his bail extended on Tuesday when he returned to the Corporate Area Criminal Court.

Ford was charged in April by the Anti-Corruption Branch, with allegedly Attempting to Pervert the Course of Justice.

However, prosecutors say, they are unable to set a trial date, as telephone related documents which are important to the case, are not yet ready.

Ford is to return on October 30.

He was charged in relation to a multi-million dollar case, which was thrown out in the Corporate Area Criminal Court in April.

In that case, two Surinamese nationals were held with a little over 500 thousand US dollars, or 55 million Jamaican dollars, by the police in Half Way Tree.

The men were charged with possession of  criminal property; and conspiracy to possess criminal property.

It's alleged, that Dr Ford approached the investigator to throw out the case and return the cash to the men.

However, the case was dismissed by Senior Resident Magistrate, Judith Pusey, due to lack of evidence.
