Basil Waite wins PNP selection contest in St. Elizabeth North East

Basil Waite, a former senator, is on course to represent the People's National Party (PNP) in the constituency of St Elizabeth North East in the next general election.

In a selection exercise on Sunday, Mr. Waite polled 576 votes to defeat Councillor for the Balaclava Division Everton Fisher who polled 271 votes.

Of the 1100 delegates eligible to vote, 849 actually participated in Sunday’s event, held at St. Elizabeth Technical High School in Santa Cruz.

This exercise followed a public declaration by the incumbent MP Evon Redman, of the PNP, that he will not be contesting the next parliamentary elections.

St. Elizabeth North East has traditionally been an electoral stronghold for the PNP, and it is currently the only one of the four constituencies in the parish that it represents in Parliament.
