Bill Bowes laid to rest

Former Police Commissioner, Wilbert 'Bill' Bowes was laid to rest Friday.

The funeral service for Mr. Bowes was held at the Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church in Half-Way-Tree.

The 82-year-old former police commissioner, died on Good Friday at the University Hospital of the West Indies.

He was interred at Dovecot Memorial Park.

Mr. Bowes served as Police Commissioner between 1980 and 1982.       

He enlisted in the Jamaica Constabulary Force on August 16, 1943 and was promoted to Corporal eight years later.

Ten promotions later, Mr. Bowes was appointed Police Commissioner.

During his 39-year stint, he served at the Training and Operation Branches, Mobile Reserve, Kingston Western and Patrol Divisions.
