Blythe says presidential campaign gaining momentum

Dr. Karl Blythe, speaking with host of RJR's Hotline programme, Emily Shields
Dr. Karl Blythe, Peoples National Party (PNP) presidential candidate, is claiming that his run for the top job is gathering momentum.

Speaking on RJR's Hotline on Friday, the former PNP vice president disclosed that he has been having conversations with at least five other persons who have intentions of being in the leadership tier of the party. He, however, declined to name the persons.

According to Dr. Blythe, the delegates who support those persons with whom he has been having conversations, could now have an opportunity to cast their vote in his favour, thereby avoiding what he said would be a bitter leadership change.

Dr. Blythe said his call for renewal was meant to create an atmosphere for contending views which would allow the PNP to move forward. He admitted that, since making the call at a recent meeting of the PNP's National Executive Council, he has been verbally abused by some party members.

However, according to Dr. Blythe, this was not the factor that prompted him to enter the leadership challenge. He said he had expected others to enter the contest, but they having not done so, he felt compelled to mount his own challenge.
