BNS employee on fraud charges, accomplice offered bail

A Bank of Nova Scotia (BNS) employee accused of leaking data on the account of a female customer, resulting in millions of dollars being stolen was released on bail Thursday.

Claude Tulloch, 28, was offered bail in the sum of $1.4 million when he appeared before the St. Andrew Parish Court.

Mr. Tulloch is charged jointly with Shawn Thomas of a St. Catherine address. Mr. Thomas was also offered bail in the sum of $1.4 million.

Investigators reported that Mr. Tulloch, who is employed to BNS's University of the West Indies branch, leaked information on the customer's account as part of a fraud scam.

This led to unauthorised withdrawals amounting to US$22,000 or nearly J$3 million from the account. Mr. Thomas is accused of making the illegal withdrawals.

The bank uncovered the racket and called in CTOC last week.

During the bail hearing, prosecutors reported that Mr. Thomas is also wanted by the police in western Jamaica.

They further disclosed that Mr. Tulloch holds dual citizenship. The cops argued that he has not yet turned over his US passport and is a flight risk.

The men are to return to court on July 11.
