Opposition Spokesman on National Security Peter Bunting, is again raising concern about the country's spiralling murder rate and the failure of the Government to provide adequate resources to the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).
He presented figures at the Central Manchester constituency conference on Sunday which show that 781 persons were murdered up to Saturday. According to Mr. Bunting, murders are up 18 per cent, while shootings are up 20 per cent.
He also criticised the government's spending, arguing that it has purchased "old" vehicles for the police force while government ministers spend $120 million on new sport utility vehicles (SUVs). He raised additional concern about the finance minister's $8.3 million cell phone bill at a time when police station are without adequate service vehicles.
