Burnt body found in Clarendon identified as missing teen

DNA tests have positively identified the burned body found in a cane field in Toll Gate, Clarendon on Wednesday, to be that of 18 year old Tonia Messam.

According to family members, Tonia, who is from Darlo in Mocho, went missing on Friday. She had gone to collect money for her mother and failed to return home.

Her body was found about 6 p.m. on Tuesday by a man who was walking along the track. He alerted the police.

The police say they will have to await the findings of an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
