Superintendent Anthony McLaughlin, acting head of C-TOC

Seized counterfeit goods valued at more than $2.6 billion were destroyed on Thursday by the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Division (C-TOC).

Superintendent Anthony McLaughlin, acting head of C-TOC, said the police remain resolute in their clampdown on fake and sub-standard goods.

Several brands of counterfeit items were destroyed.

The fake brands included Clarks, Gucci, Adidas, Nike, Facebook, Converse as well as local brands such as Lion Pride, IGS, Carreras, J. Wray and Nephew, and Palace Amusement.

Superintendent McLaughlin urged Jamaicans not to support the illicit trade. He said criminal organisations use proceeds from the sale of  counterfeit goods to finance gang activities.
