Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett has said Jamaica's Cabinet is now reviewing the proposed pension scheme for workers in the tourism industry.
The scheme has been in consideration for more than a decade.
Last week, Dr. Wykeham McNeill, Opposition Spokesman on Tourism, said it might not be implemented in time, despite everything being in place from the time he was minister.
But Mr. Bartlett told RJR News that the plan remains on track for a January implementation.
He said the pension scheme for the initial set of retirees will be funded by the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF) and bolstered by workers' contributions.
It is believed that less that 10 per cent of workers in the tourism sector are members of a pension plan.
