Carmax CEO granted bail

After more than two months in custody, Darren Blake, CEO of the car dealership, CARMAX, has been released on bond.

Blake who was offered bail in the sum of J$10 million last week, appeared in court on Tuesday where the case against him was mentioned. He is charged with fraud involving $160 million.

In the meantime, however, investigators have revealed that the figure has risen to $230 million.

Blake is charged jointly with three Manchester based used car dealers who are accused of breaches of  the Proceeds of  Crime Act.

The car dealers are accused of  purchasing 90 motor vehicles, valued at J$60 million, from CARMAX.

Lawyers for the dealers argue that their clients are legitimate businessmen who should not have been charged.

Blake and his co-accused are to return to court on July 22.
