The student from the College of Agricultural Science and Education (CASE), who has been linked to an arson attack at the college on Wednesday morning, was remanded when he appeared in the Port Antonio Resident Magistrates Court on Friday.
Romario Bacchas, 19, from the community of Grange Hill in the western parish of Westmoreland faces charges of four counts of attempted murder and one count of arson.
In court on Friday, attorney Richard Harris was unsuccessful in his attempt to secure Bacchas' release. Harris argued, in his bail application, that his client is a very promising young man.
Despite the pleadings, however, the application was denied. Bacchas who was remanded, is booked to return to court on March 27.
One student remains hospitalised after being burnt in the blaze while three others were treated and released. Damage from the fire is estimated at J$300 thousand.
