There was chaos in Spanish Town, St. Catherine on Monday, as scores of people descended on the post office to collect funds from the Programme of Advancement Through Health and Education (PATH).

Cash grants have been increased for beneficiaries of the programme to assist families in light of the coronavirus forcing the closure of schools.

Radio Jamaica News received reports of a similar scene on Tuesday.

There was no form of physical distancing taking place, as persons jostled to get to the server's window.

This prompted the intervention of the police.

A frustrated parent vented to Radio Jamaica News about the poor behaviour of others who were present.

She suggested a change in the payment system to allow specific days for different communities to collect their benefits.

The Ministry of Social Security has urged PATH beneficiaries to follow the distribution schedule for the collection of payments.

Collette Roberts Risden, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, said the ministry has sent out a distribution schedule to prevent overcrowding at post offices due to the coronavirus.

She said the schedule is done in alphabetical order.
