Chief Justice Brian Sykes to hand down ruling on St.Thomas Election Petition

Chief  Justice Brian Sykes is to hand down a ruling today regarding the Election Petition brought against Jamaica Labour Party Councillor for the Yallahs Division Dean Jones. It was filed by the People's National Party's Constantine Bogle.

Following the November 2016 Local Government Election, attorneys representing Mr Bogle challenged the decision to install Mr. Jones as a Councillor.  His legal team contended that Mr. Jones did not live in the parish for a stipulated period as required by law and is, therefore, unfit to serve in the St. Thomas Municipal Corporation.

Mr. Jones has dismissed the claim.

The court is to determine whether Mr. Jones lived in Yallahs and was a civil servant when he was elected. He defeated Mr. Bogle by 125 votes in the Local Government Election.
